1 : Started Career at 5
Messi started his career at the age of 5 playing for Grandoli, A local club coached by his father. Later, at age of 8 he started playing for Newell’s Old Boys. With Messi on their side Newell’s Old Boys lost only one match over a 4 year long period.
2 : Diagnosed with a growth hormone deficiency
At the age of 11 Lionel Messi was diagnosed with growth hormone deficiency. The team Barcelona covered all the expenses for the treatment. Before this, Club Atlético River Plate from Argentina shown interest in signing Messi, however they couldn't afford the payment for the treatment. Then Club Barcelona came into the picture.
And the Rest is history.
3 : First contract was on Napkin
Messi first met with Barcelona On 14 December 2000.
Barcelona club official Carles Rexach was too keen to get messi on his team and wanted to make a contract with him immediately. Unfortunately, with Rexach there was no paper available, So he grabbed the nearest thing which could write on. And then Messi signed on a paper napkin.
4 : A Spanish Messi
In 2004 in early Barca age, Messi was asked to play for Spanish under 20 teams. He was qualified to play for them since he lived in the country from the age of 13. But Messi turned down the opportunity, Instead, he played for Argentina and won the FIFA youth championship. If he could have played for the Spanish team, definitely they would have dominated the world. Messi himself said he would never play for Spain and nothing could change his mind for Argentinian colors.
5 : Sent off after 44 seconds on his debut
Already established in himself in Barcelona the eighteen year old messi was ready to make his mark on the international stage. He was called out to the senior debut in August 2005. But things didn't go per plan. He got on the ground in the 65th minute and in just 44 seconds he was sensationally sent off after elbowing the Hungarian player Vilmos Vanczák. Vanczák escaped with a yellow card, But messi left the field with tears.
6 : World player of the year
Lionel Messi received the prestigious FIFA World Player of the Year nominations in 2008 when he was only 21 years old. Although he did not win it, he is the youngest player to be nominated for this award. Off course he had a disappointment of missing the same. But history continued on his way, He won it in next 4 consecutive years.
7 : The goal scoring Machine
Off course Messi is a goal scoring machine. At the age of 24 he passed all the records in Barcelona by becoming the leading goal scorer. And the first player to score in 21 consecutive games. He literally scored against every team in the league. The only player to win 3 European golden boot award. The most goal scorer in one calendar month in the history of football. Incredibly, he is the second most goal scorer in international level also.
8 : Ballon d'or
He won the 2009 Ballon d'or award in front of his big rival Cristiano Ronaldo by grabbing 473 out of 480 votes.
9 : Goal Celebration
Like a player Messi who is quite reserved, He raises his both hands in the air after scoring a goal. This gesture is to pay tribute and say thanks to his grandmother, whom he was very close. He lost her at the age of 10 and always believes she is up there watching him.
10 : A Second Messi
No more than 3 days after he was born, Messi's son Thiago had been already a prime target. Messi's first club Newell’s Old Boys were first in line to sign the infant he was barely 72 hours old. They managed to sign the newest and youngest club member in 5th November 2012.
